Well on Saturday the 6th of October we had two club members sliding out at mallala for G1.. Luke (Orgasmc) and Ev (The Storm Trooper) both had a great day to say the least.. This was Evs first time competing in a competition and also the track debut of "Seventh Garage".. Both blokes only did about 4 practice laps to save on tyres for qualifying.. The weather was amazing and the forecast rain held off all day, perfect saturday for drift... Ev slid consistantly with beautiful lines and great speed and angle, as per usual Luke got out there and made a big mess of those tyres with more smoke than a bushfire..
Luke Qualified 25th & Ev 22th, so both made it into the group 2 heats... Ev had to battle Steve De Palma in the Nisswreck 180, Well did he feel the wrath of 31 or what.. Ev drove so consistantly that they had to re-run him against De Palma which proved to be in evs favour because he knocked out the 180...
Group 2 Quarters- Ev got to battle another 31.. Chris Gobin in a Champange S2 with a Rb20det I think... Oh well once again "The Storm Trooper" showed him how it was done , with consistant runs and great angle, Ev took out the win...
Group 2 Semi finals- Ev had to battle Adam Dermody (180sx)... Once again with consistant runs and ballsy moves Ev manages to take out the win against Adam..
Not after more re-runs, even the commentator Racin Jason was stumped for words as Ev carved up the track, Quote from Racin Jason "we saw the birth of a new drift legend today"... ( But we as a club and his mates have seen this a long time coming)..
Group 2 Finals- Ben Monkhouse vs Ev "The Storm Trooper" Daws..
Ben Monkhouse is from a long line of drfiters being the youngest brother of 3 competing in the SA drift scene, with a well set-up Nissan Slivia and great support crew ben was doing great out there all day.. Must give this guy props for his driving skills, he really deserved to be in the finals..
Ev " The Storm Trooper" Daws- well bro what could we say, my only advice was him was to go out there and just have fun.. From his driving in previous runs today this was gonna be interesting...
After the two runs both drove so well and it was really close, Ev had gotten into his comfort zone and started to "scando" the straight coming into the corners with some very decent speed not washing any off with very consistant angle.. There was discussion with the officials and it was decided that there was to be another re-run.. Ben needed more fuel and Ev needed a quick tyre change...
Once both were out on track it was still very close, from a technical point of view Ev had it all, his consistantcy on the day proved to be his strong point.. Some people would have let this tension get to them, but not Ev he drove like a man possesed.. Unfortunatly Bens Fuel pump shit itself on the second lap, but we all believed even of it had held out Ev had this in the Bag...
Ev " The Storm Trooper " Daws Wins Group 2Time for the trophys.. personally it brought a tear to my eye seeing Ev and his 31 up on the podium...
Never could you have asked for a more humble winner...... But the icing on the cake was Ev taking out the "Best Rookie Award"
Congratulations from Everyone in the club mate, you deserved this win and i believe this will not be the last time we see you up on the podium..
You Made us all proud mate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
