Do i have an Rb20Det box? ( later model box )
« on: July 31, 2010, 02:35:09 AM »
In my new wagon, it has the gearbox with sort of ribbing / fins on the back of it. I Looked at Merc's today and it seems to look the same. Does this mean mine is the later model box too? Can i get a link to a picture comparision or something please (:

Going to get my box reco'd soon then its going straight into my car.

Expect to pay around $1200 for a rebuild IF your gears are in good condition

This might sound stupid, but what's the difference between a reco and a rebuild?

I've been told that I can get a box reco'd (new bearings, synchros, rings, seals) for around $500... as long as the box isn't totally destroyed.

What else does a rebuild involve??

your wagon is a factory series 3 manual

You will have to check with the gearbox rebuilder as to what he will be doing in the way of rebuilding/inspecting/reconditioning cos $500 sounds a bit too cheap imo

Have you had one rebuilt/reco'd for $1200? If so, what exactly was done to it?

I had all new syncros/seals/bearings replaced, also the cost includes disassembly/assembly, mite seem a bit much but i know i got a good job done as the same company did up my LSD and that transformed the way the car drove(LSD had worn to the point of being a single spinner)
