Few questions , trying to get RB30 to run well.
« on: July 28, 2010, 03:55:34 PM »
So i own Jims dana 3 now and it has a few problems which im going to try sort out today

First on cold start it runs really rough, and seems to want to stall at any throttle opening.
I've just given the intake a good clean and will do the AAC valve soon, what else could it be?

Also the coolant temp sensor will be replaced today as well.

Another thing it idles at 1200 RPM, and it goes through alot of fuel as jim told me. Any ideas? Fuel regulator?

Sounds like it may have an air leak as well, as i can hear a sort of hiss in the engine bay.

Can someone give me a whole bunch of things to do so i can sort it all out :P

try checking the rubber elbow just after the air intake box... My car was idleing rough today and was coughing and spluttering at any sign of throttle ended up being a split in the elbow...

As for the high idle just back it off a bit with the idle screw maybe???

The cold start thing could be the Air Regulator, especially if the winters are cold where you are. Not a biggy. The revs thing though, you should get hold of a Gregorys or look on the Tech Info pages for the procedure to get the Base idle set. I think alot of people root around with just the Idle screw on the back of the IAC/AAC, but this is just taking a short cut and can throw other things out of whack, forcing the ECU to compensate..
If the Coolant temp sensor is faarked, then that will be throwing fuel away and obviously if you have an air leak find and fix that..

The idle speed screw is how you adjust the idle lol, it's not taking a shortcut. You just need to disconnect the AAC first which most people don't do.
same thing happened to me once, but with a ham sandwich.
when i bought it the person called it a ham and cheese sub, but I wanted a sandwich, so what I was going to do was get a ham and cheese sandwich from the food truck and swap my ham and cheese over into it

I've fixed the high idle now, down to 700, and replaced the coolant temp sensor, it still has a missfire on idle, haven't driven it enough to see whether fuel econemy has improved.

Give the CAS chopper disc a spray with contact cleaner as there may be some dirt or crap in one or more of the slots, or it may just be a bad contact on one or more of the lume connections. While engine is idling give some of the connectors a jiggle and listen/feel for a change in running then clean/fix accordingly..

once you've done all the stuff you wanna do, get a good diognostic tune done. they'll put an exhaust probe on it and set the sensors correctly...

will cost you a bit but it'll run way better than you'll ever get it ;)

the tune itself should be 150ish then add any issues/problems they pick up on top of that.

if you want the details of the mech i use near work in hawthorn east pm me, he's a bit more pricey than average but knows his shit and imo worth it if you want it done right
